			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>This fall the U.S. and world economies are facing what many believe are the biggest challenges since the Great Depression. The Summit’s relevance has become imperative to our region’s citizens, businesses, communities and economic development agencies.</p>
<p><strong>The Beginning: </strong>Rich Karlgaard, Publisher of <em>Forbes</em> Magazine, opens the Summit with his vision of our U.S. and world economy and where the country and global economy are going.</p>
<p><strong>Our Region: </strong>Economists present the conclusion of an in-depth economic study of our 26-county region. Months in preparation, the study identifies today’s economic engines comprising our area, their interdependencies, our future compared to the new world economy, and what we must be doing to be competitive.</p>

<p>James B. Bullard took office as president and chief executive officer of the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis on April 1, 2008. He directs the activities of the Bank’s head office in St. Louis as well as its three branches in Little Rock, Ark., Louisville, Ky. and Memphis, Tenn. In addition, he represents the Bank on the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC), the Federal Reserve’s chief monetary policymaking body.<br />
The Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis, one of 12 regional Reserve banks, along with the Board of Governors in Washington, D.C., constitute the Federal Reserve System.</p>

The<strong> 2008 Regional Economic Summit </strong>will feature nationally-recognized business experts and economists who will discuss the current economic climate and realities facing a 26-county region, as well as outline the steps necessary for prosperity, wealth creation, and economic vitality in the 21<sup>st</sup> Century.</p>
<p>Kicking off the summit is <strong>Rich Karlgaard, <a href="http://blogs.forbes.com/" target="_blank">publisher of <em>Forbes</em></a></strong> - the world&#8217;s most popular business and financial magazine.<br />
Attendees will have the opportunity during the two-day summit to participate in general and break-out sessions dealing with entrepreneurialism, regional collaboration, building stronger economic development strategies, and alignment to the emerging world economy. The final summit agenda is being developed in cooperation with regional advisory councils from each state.</p>
